AABPA
American Association for Budget and Policy Analysis is a non-profit organization
whose aim is to advance the practice of government budget and program
analysis
ATCA
Air Traffic Control Association is an independent, non-profit, non-government,
professional organization. This group consists of representatives from all
segments of the aviation community that have an interest in promoting and
encouraging the advancement of aviation and air traffic control.
DBE
Disadvantaged Business Enterprise is a small business which is at
least 51% owned by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged individuals.
Additionally, the firm's management and daily business operations are controlled
by one or more of the socially and economically disadvantaged owners.
DOD
Department of Defense is in charge of ensuring national security
and regulating military moves.
FAA
Federal Aviation Administration is responsible for the safe and
efficient movement of aircraft through the National Airspace Systems. The
FAA has a vast legislative authority to create and enforce Federal Aviation
Regulations. It is also referred to the federal agency that issues and enforces
regulations and standards related to the manufacture, operation, certification,
and maintenance of aircraft that oversees all aspects of civil aviation in
the U.S. including skydiving.
GAO
General Accounting Office is an entity in the government that that
does not have a political affiliation. It is responsible for making the President
of the United States of America accountable to Congress and also to the citizens
of the United States of America.
GIS
Geographic Information Support is the analysis that combines relational
databases with spatial interpretation and outputs often in form of maps.
It is also used for capturing, storing, checking, integrating, analyzing
and displaying data about the earth that is spatially referenced.
Governance
The act, process, or power of governing; government: "Regaining
a sense of the state is thus an absolute priority, not only for an effective
policy against . . . terrorism, but also for governance itself" (Moor
head Kennedy). The state of being governed.
IT
Information Technology is the branch of engineering that deals with
the use of computers and telecommunications to retrieve, store and transmit
information.
MBE
Minority Business Enterprise consists of members of the minority
groups such as: African American, Hispanic, Native American or Asian. As
a MBE it must be 51% owned by a member of the minority groups.
ROBBINS-GIOIA
A consulting company that provides custom program management methodologies
to successfully deliver projects on budget and on time while managing
significant change, optimizing business processes and achieving a sustainable
competitive advantage.
SBA
Small Business Association is a program the helps and protects
small businesses. The SBE must guarantee a fair percentage of government
owned contracts to small business owners. They stand by their commitment
to small businesses: "Maintain and strengthen the nation's economy
by aiding, counseling, assisting and protecting the interests of
small businesses and by helping families and businesses recover from
national disasters."
SDB
Small Disadvantaged Business is a business assistance agency, it
offers two business programs. While the 8(a) Program offers a broad scope
of assistance to socially and economically disadvantaged firms, SDB certification
strictly pertains to benefits in federal procurement. 8(a) firms automatically
qualify for SDB certification. Makes SDB eligible for special bidding benefits.
OMB
Office of Management and Budget is part of the Execute branch of
the government that creates budgets and monitors the spending of the federal
government.
